The Crawley Mela Association (CIMA) sponsors artists, performers, ethnic crafts and speakers for visits to local schools and community groups.
The Community outreach programme has been in operation since 2004 – click here for examples of feedback from previous years. The Outreach activities are funded by CIMA with help from Arts Council South East, Scarman Trust and other granting agencies.
To the extent that funding and availability permit, CIMA volunteers will arrange visits from a list of resources shown below. In some cases we recommend performances be paired with a talk by a local community leader on the fundamental beliefs and religion of a culture, since this provides context and structure which help to understand the artform. CIMA is a multicultural umbrella group, not a multifaith organisation: we have no opinion on matters of faith. Speakers are selected because they represent a local community and have experience working with children.
CIMA has a Child and Vulnerable Persons Protection Policy. CIMA volunteers working with children are CRB-cleared.
All requests and contact details are confidential. They are not disclosed to any other organisation or agency except as required by law. We ask those submitting requests to tick the box allowing us to keep contact and booking details since without them we cannot respond to your request.
The Community outreach programme also supports artist residencies in primary and secondary schools for a limited number of schools each year. For further information please click here.
